My name is Patricia Höcker and I’ve spent more than half of my life working as a midwife. In all those years many things have changed in the medical realm regarding pregnancy and birth. And most of them for the better! There are more rules, guidelines and protocols, and there is more knowledge for what the best thing to do is in certain situations. Technical advancements are to thank for being able to monitor pregnancies better.

We’ve taken on an expanded role as coach, as opposed to medical experts, as a result of expectations and uncertainties which are more frequently spoken of. Thankfully it’s about you, and your wellbeing and the choices that can be made that suit you. Supporting parents (to-be) during a pregnancy, birth and the first week with a baby, is in my opinion, the most beautiful thing. It remains a miraculous process which everyone experiences in their own way. It is special to be able to use my knowledge and experience where there is need. I find it very important that a pregnancy can be satisfactorily looked upon and that one may trust in one’s own ability. That you can and may give birth as you wish. Healthy and satisfied parents and children are my goals.

I live in Leiden together with my husband and son. In addition to my work within the practice I’m also active with midwifery at a regional level. I work as the secretary for the professional midwifery participants association pension fund.

My name is Kyra Vallinga and I grew up in Landgraaf (South Limburg). I knew from a very young age that I wanted to become a midwife. My younger sister “gave birth” countless times throughout our childhood to our baby born doll. In 2014 I received my diploma from the Midwifery Academy in  Maastricht. Immediately after graduation I began working in Kollum (Friesland). Here I gained a lot of experience in home births. After 6 months I began working in the region of Leidschendam/Voorburg/Den Haag.

In 2015 my dog Morris and I moved permanently to South Holland. After working throughout the region for a time, I came into contact with Liva and began working for them in June of 2016. The personal care, diversity of work and wonderful colleagues have kept me working for Liva and eventually led me to join the team as owner. I continue to work with Liva with great pleasure. It is my goal as midwife to support the expecting mother and her partner. I do my best to ensure that your experience is a positive one and that you can proudly look back upon this special time. I am looking forward to meeting you!
